I’ve read the chapters 5 – 8 in novel and here’s a short summary on basically everything that has happened.
The history teacher Ben, has created the wave and introduced it to his class. He came up with a motto for the group,”Strength through Discipline, Strength through Community, Strength through Action‘’, along with a salute. Laurie went home for supper, and they were talking about The Wave, her mother didn’t really like this because she says everyone is their own person and individuals and that’s how it should be. Her dad thought otherwise though. He liked the idea of kids being disciplined and behaving properly at school. Also, their all getting along with each other because they think that the group make them all equals. Robert, the class loser now fits in the the rest, even the jocks who used to pick on him. During one of the classes, Ben Ross gave them all cards, and every card with a red X was like a supervisor, they were to make sure people were following the rules and recruit new members.
My thoughts on this.. what Lauries mom said, is right, people should be individuals, and to be themselves, not all be the same, that’s stupid. Sure it has some good things about it, like Robert not being picked on for example, but it also has bad things, like them losing their indiviualism. I think what they are, is sort of like how the Nazi’s were.. except you know, without the guns and tanks and stuff. And sure everyone is all perfect and the same, but, is it worth it?
